First open house.

Tonight was Ty’s VPK open house. It is my first one, well, I have had and been to other open houses, being a teacher it’s hard to avoid, but tonight was my first as a parent. It was pretty cute. There are 3 of us teachers who have their kids in the VPK at our school. We learned about their curriculum and how the blended VPK works. 50% of the kids are “regular” ed and 50% are speech or language kids. Ty has 3 wonderful teachers. The speech/language teacher has over 20 years of experience, including being Montessori trained, which I thought was really cool. I am excited to see how much Ty learns this year! It’s also a perk being a teacher at his school because whenever one of his teachers’ sees me they have something cute to tell me that Ty did!

So, Ty and I are driving to school/work this morning. I see a mosquito in the car. I try to smack it a few times but he disappears. So, when we get to a red light I start to look around for the mosquito. I turn my head to the left to look behind me and on top of my headrest is a giant cockroach!!!! I throw the car into park (the light is still red) and I jump into the passenger seat! I HATE cockroaches, they are so disgusting!!!! Then I am totally frozen, I don’t know what to do! It’s not moving just sitting there. I have a sweatshirt on the floor so I grab that and smack it off the seat into the back. I tell Ty that he needs to watch mommy’s seat and make sure the cockroach doesn’t climb back up it! Then I drive like crazy, not leaning back on my seat, to work. Jump out of the car and get Ty out. Blah! I hate them!! So gross. Then it’s time to go home. I remember I still have to find that damn roach! So we open the back passenger door and I fling out my sweatshirt onto the ground. Then I pick it up and shake it off. The roach falls out on the ground, it doesn’t move. I guess it was dead the whole time. Still, it was a very traumatizing morning!

This weekend was pretty uneventful but it was still a good one. Friday we were suppose to go to the zoo but got rained out so we met the Gallers over at International Plaza (they have the best play place).

Saturday we went to Target to get all of Ty’s school supplies, seriously, it was at least 60 dollars and he is only in VPK! I still can’t find plastic scissors or hand sanitizer (everyone is out). Later on we met the Gallers over at Countryside Mall. I managed to find a new lunch box for Ty at the Disney store for 5 bucks! The kids played at the the play place for a bit. After looking at some other stuff we all headed home. The Gallers put their kids to bed and we met them at Grillsmith for dinner. I usually like Grillsmith and my food was good this time, all I got was a Cesar salad, but I do not recommend their creme brulee. It was pretty disappointing.

Sunday morning was cleaning and laundry. Later on Todd and his kids came over and Mike and his kids and they all went to the pool. I stayed behind to clean more, I organized Dave’s closet. Then everyone came back and Angelle joined us. I made dinner for everyone. We fed the kids first and then they played while the adults ate. It was fun hanging out with everyone and all the kids got along great! Now, it’s time for another Monday. My body is still not quite use to waking up so early! I miss my lazy summer mornings…

Anyone else play this game? I just started, yes Dave is actually letting me play on his PS3, and I love it! All the levels are so different, I love that you can change your outfit anytime you want and it is challenging but still doable. I do have to have Dave beat some parts for me, but that’s only because I get frustrated so fast! I hate trying to do something over and over and over again, it’s annoying, so I just get Dave to do it for me. I just think my little sack person is so adorable!

This was the longest week ever, at least it seemed like it anyway. It was a lot of paperwork and lesson planning at school this week. I don’t start seeing my kids until Monday. Once I start seeing kids then it won’t seem so long, staying in one spot all day makes it drag.

Ty finished his first week of VPK. It actually stopped raining long enough for the puddles to dry up and he got to go on the new playground at school. He was very excited and said it is way better than his old school’s playground. So far he is enjoying going to mommy’s school!

Tonight we met the Galler’s at International Plaza (they have the best play place) for dinner and play time. We had planned to go to Lowry Park Zoo but we got rained out. The kids had a blast running around the play place. I am off to play some Bejeweled Blitz, it’s happy hour and the x2 multipliers are free!

I guess all I had to do was complain. It did NOT rain today and I did NOT get a headache! What a great day, too bad it wasn’t Friday.

We had dinner at Carraba’s with Austin and Amanda. Austin leaves tomorrow for his first year of college at Flagler College in St. Augustine. We had a great dinner. He is excited and nervous. I just can’t believe he is freaking 18 and going to college! I know he will do great. Just makes me feel old!

I am so over this rain! It has been raining nonstop for 3 days now! It is really making my car duty mornings and afternoons a pain in the butt! I am also over the fact that I am coming home everyday with a damn headache. I don’t know what the problem is but I am done with it. Done with the rain and the headaches!

Well, we all made it through our first day. Ty did great, he loves his teachers and all his new friends. We had a pretty nasty first day of school though. It was raining, pouring, most of the day. It’s actually still raining. At least tomorrow is Wednesday and it’s an early release day!

Anyone know a good roofer?? As we were eating dinner tonight, we started hearing dripping, it was fast dripping, I actually thought Milo was peeing on the floor! Turns out the roof is leaking!! How shitty is that. Oh well, what are you going to do. Anyone know a good roofer??? Dave has to make some calls tomorrow…

Our awesome friends, Mike and Angelle have moved back to Florida! We all moved up to NC together, Dave and I moved back first and now they have followed!!! They made it back to FL tonight. We are all excited to have them back. Many good times are ahead!!

On a side note, I had at union rep training today, yes it was all day long but they did feed us well and I got to meet Governor Charlie Crist! He shook my hand and thanked me for all I do. It was pretty cool. He is running for Senate this election and I will definitely be voting for him since he vetoed SB6, which was an awful bill that would have based teachers pay on their FCAT scores. He is definitely a friend to the education world. We also got to meet all the other candidates running for office that the union is supporting, it was a pretty cool day. So, everyone in FL, vote for Charlie Crist for Senate and Alex Sink for governor (if you value public education!).
