Recovery and Thanksgiving.

This recovery was a lot worse than my last one!  I did not start feeling better until Friday!  Thanksgiving was at Jackson’s house and I pretty much sat in a corner and felt terrible the entire time.  It sucked. It did look like everyone else was having a good time though. I also did not like the way the vicodin made me feel.  Just way too loopy and out there, and not in a good way! So, I did not get to enjoy any of the Thanksgiving food, it was pretty disappointing.  Luckily, we had another Thanksgiving on Saturday that I was feeling good for.  Mom was great and made me a whole Thanksgiving dinner!  We had Amanda and Austin and Dave’s grandmother come too.  The food was delicious, all the traditionals were there, turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy and the star of the show was the yeast rolls we made.  They were so freaking good!  Thank you to Suzanne for letting me borrow her awesome KitchenAid mixer (now I need one of my own, I am not sure how I have lived without one…). With the mixer the rolls were not too difficult and they were delicious!   I also made a from scratch chocolate cake that was pretty good too (also used the mixer for this and it was super easy!).  It was good food and good times with great peeps!  We had a lot of fun and I even got to drink a little bubbly as well!

I had my post op appointment today.  He said everything looks good and all the soreness should be gone in a couple of weeks.  I am also having some numbness around the incisions, he said it wasn’t normal but sometimes they can nick a nerve while they are in there and it could take a few weeks for that to start feeling normal again.  Hopefully that resolves itself soon, it does feel very odd!  Other than that things are going pretty well.  I am looking forward to winter break (3 weeks away) since it doesn’t feel like I got much of a Thanksgiving break.  I do have some pictures but Dave hasn’t got them off his fancy new camera yet.

Recovery day 2.

Ok, so today was worse than yesterday.  I thought it was going to be all good since I felt so good, relatively speaking, yesterday. I am in more pain, hopefully tomorrow will be better.  Luckily I don’t have much gas pain in my shoulders but it was under my ribs today.  I am hoping to get some better sleep tonight.  I slept in 2 hour increments last night.  I just took my pain meds so I am waiting for them to kick in and hopefully give me some good sleep.  I have got my fingers crossed for feeling better tomorrow!

Recuperating.

Second surgery done.  I am feeling much better after this one than the last.  I have less gas pains in my shoulders but my stomach is definitely more sore.  It was a good thing we did get this taken care of because when the doctor was in there he said my appendix was chronically inflamed.  So, it could have easily got infected or ruptured!  Even better about surgery #2 is he used sutures instead of stitches, so I don’t have to get those removed they just fall off!  My throat is really sore from the breathing tube but I have been drinking lots of tea with honey to help that.  My biggest challenge tonight will be sleeping.  It is so hard to sleep somewhat upright for me and that is the most comfortable way to sleep so the gas doesn’t cause intense pain.  Other than that I am feeling pretty decent for just having surgery.  Thanks for thinking of me!

Surgery #2.

Tomorrow is the big day.  I am having my second surgery to remove my crazy appendix.  It is at the same outpatient surgery center we went last time so we know what to expect.  It will be pretty much the same procedure as well.  I am just glad to get it over with.  I have all of next week off for Thanksgiving break so I only had to use 1 sick day this time.  I will update tomorrow.  I go in at 8:00 and the surgery is scheduled for 9:30, at least I don’t have to starve all day like I did last time!

Next surgery.

My next surgery has been scheduled.  November 19th at 9:30.  At least I don’t have to wait all day to not eat again!  The surgeon said it will be almost exactly like the surgery I just had.  I picked the 19th because it’s the Friday before I have a week off for Thanksgiving break.  I will only have to take that Friday off, so that is nice to save some sick time.  I am glad to get it over with but it still sucks to have to do it again!
