Don Pedro Island Vacation 2010!

Day One:  (Monday) We had a great first day.  Woke up and had a swim in the pool with Ty.  Then we enjoyed some delicious breakfast sandwiches made by mom (even though she was distracted by talking to Mr. Brad).  After breakfast mom and I took a long walk on the beautiful beach.  The island has 8 miles of white sandy beach and is practically deserted!  Dave, Ty and Austin met us at the beach at the end of our walk and drove us home (we were tired, we must have walked like 4 miles!).  Then it was time for lunch.  After lunch Ty and I napped for a couple hours.  When we woke up we took another dip in the pool.  After our swim mom made dinner, pasta carbonara, sooo good!  We took a sunset walk on the beach while Austin and Dave tried to catch some fish (no luck there).  It was so beautiful!  Now we are just winding down and getting ready for bed.  Amanda is suppose to join us tomorrow!

Day 2: (Tuesday) Ty woke up and wanted to swim in the pool.  I just sat poolside and watched him. Austin went out for early morning fishing and came home with some mullet.  Then mom made some yummy pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  Amanda let us know she was leaving to get here around 1:00 so we made plans for a morning/early afternoon beach trip before she got here.  Ty, mom and I headed down to the beach with the boogie boards and sand toys while Dave and Austin hung around the house playing Call of Duty.  The beach here is wonderful and pretty much empty.  There were perfect little waves for Ty to try out the boogie boards, he had a blast!  We built sand castles and found shells and sharks teeth.  Then we headed home for some lunch, before lunch we took a quick dip in the pool! Mom fried up the mullet and we have fish sandwiches for lunch, so good! After lunch Ty went down for a nap (we really need to invest in a pool and a beach for our house, Ty has been napping for 2 hours a day and sleeping past 8:00!!). I started my 1000 piece puzzle, my goal is to finish before we leave. Amanda arrived around 3:30.  We had to wake Ty up around 5:00pm!!  We had a little evening thunderstorm roll through while we ate dinner.  After dinner we took a walk down to the beach to watch the sunset and look for more sharks teeth.

Day 3: (Wednesday) Today was a pretty lazy day.  We watched some tv, worked on the puzzle, played games with Ty.  Dave and Austin play Call of Duty.  Austin did some more fishing. This time he was not so successful.  Amanda, Dave and Austin watched Training Day. Mom and Amanda did a lot of laying out by the pool.  Ty and I joined them for a swim after lunch.  We went down to the beach around 5ish and Ty had a fabulous time playing in the waves.  More sharks teeth were found as well.  After dinner Mom and I headed back to the beach to watch the sunset.  We thought we were going to get a  good one but it turned out to be a bit too hazy, but the breeze felt great!  I finished my puzzle.  I thought it would take a lot longer.  I think I need a 3000 piece next.

Day 4: (Thursday) We took another trip to the beach before lunch.  Ty and Austin had a great time boogie boarding and just jumping around in the waves.  Amanda worked on her “tan”, really she was just burning.  Dave met us down there after doing a little work.  Around 1:00 we headed home for lunch.  After lunch the boys played some more Call of Duty while the rest of us just relaxed around the house.  Later in the afternoon, around 4ish, mom and I took a walk on the beach.  We scored big time with the shark’s teeth this time.  For dinner we had black beans and rice and some fresh pompano and trout that Austin caught, really delicious!  We took another sunset stroll on the beach, it had really cooled off and was just gorgeous out.

Day 5: (Friday) Well, thanks to Tropical Storm Bonnie, today has been an inside day.  Austin left early this morning and then Amanda left around noon.  It has been raining on and off all day but really that’s about all we are seeing from Bonnie.  Hopefully it will clear up a little tonight so we can at least take a walk on the beach, maybe find some more shark’s teeth.  If it is going to rain all day tomorrow, we might leave tomorrow afternoon instead of Sunday morning.  It has been a wonderful vacation, super relaxing but I will admit, I want to sleep in my own bed again!  We have a king size at home and it’s a queen bed here, I don’t know how we use to share a queen!  It is sooooo much smaller than a king!

Day 6: (Saturday) Well,  Bonnie left us with beautiful weather.  But, we did decide to pack up and leave today rather than tomorrow.  Dave has been needing to get home to work so it was really no big deal.  We got a morning trip in to the beach so all was good!  The waves were pretty big and we had lots of fun jumping in them, especially Ty!  We even saw a gopher tortoise crossing the road as we were leaving the beach. The drive home was great, it’s only 2 hours away!   Overall an awesome vacation! I can’t believe we have places like this so close to home!  We all got a little sun, thankfully no sunburns (except Amanda who was doing it on purpose).  I think it is safe to say that Ty is no longer as white as Casper the ghost! We ate lots of good food and drank lots of good drinks! A huge thanks to Nadia for petsitting all our animals!

Vacation!!

We are off to a little island called Don Pedro.  It has 8 miles of white sandy beaches and you can only get there by boat.  I can’t wait to have some quality family time and just plain old relaxing. We are heading out in about 15 minutes.  Amanda is going to join us on Tuesday and then Jackson and Kristi will join us on Friday.  Mom and Austin will be with us the whole time.  I will bring back lots of pictures!  Hope everyone has a great week!

Smart Aleck

We were just sitting here eating breakfast and Ty put his foot on the table.

Me: Ty we don’t put our feet on the table.  We eat at the table and that’s gross.

Ty: You just said eating was gross. (then proceeds to giggle)

Seriously, a smart aleck at 4.  I can only imagine the things that will come out of this boys mouth when he is a teenager…

4th in Key West!

We had a wonderful time in Key West!  I was not too good with the picture taking but I did manage to get a few for your viewing pleasure.  We got there Thursday evening and just ate dinner and hung out, unpacked.  Friday we drove down to Publix to get all our food for the week.  Then we had some lunch and did some swimming in the canal and enjoyed some time in the kayaks.  Ty and I beat mom in several kayak races!  Saturday we packed a lunch and went to Bahia Honda State Park.  It was a beautiful day for the beach.  Dave might have even overcome his fear of sharks!  Ty loved looking for shells and swimming in the clear blue water.   We took home a few treasures.  Sunday we hung around the house and did a lot of relaxing.  We had delicious burgers and potato salad for our 4th of July dinner.  We lit a few sparklers and some small fireworks and then watched various firework shows from the view we had on the canal.  We had so much fun at Bahia Honda that we went back on Monday.  Monday night we drove into downtown Key West for a waterfront dinner at Turtle Kraals. Then we headed off to Mallory Square to see the sunset fun.  Unfortunetly, we missed most of the performers, including the crazy cat man, Ty was really looking forward to that.  Oh well, maybe next time!  We headed and home and called it an early night so we could wake up and drive home.  Overall, it was an awesome trip!  Dave even had a good time getting out of the house, imagine that!  So glad that Nadia could join us too!  Maybe we can squeeze one more trip in before school starts again…
